Route 84 - More buses for rural villages within Suffolk

84 - Network Enhancements

From Sunday 28th July, residents in the rural villages of Assington, Leavenheath, Stoke by Nayland and Nayland will benefit from even more buses travelling between Sudbury and Colchester.

This service enhancement is funded by a proportion of the Bus Service Improvement Plan 2 funding allocated to Suffolk County Council by the UK Government, following a successful bid to enhance its existing bus service, route 84.

These enhancements include more buses from Monday through to Saturday and better travel options for those commuting to work, school, days out and accessing essential services and hospital appointments:

  • More daytime weekday buses towards Sudbury and Colchester providing opportunities for leisure journeys, and linking the villages to Colchester Hospital for medical appointments
  • Later weekday buses from Sudbury at 17:05 and Colchester at 17:40 to further support weekly commuters and young people choosing to travel home later from after-school activities.
  • More buses on Saturdays, increasing opportunities for leisure and social travel in Sudbury and Colchester and work opportunities for younger people without having to rely on an adult to transport them there.
  • There will also be some slight timing adjustments to some existing buses to help improve punctuality and a new timetable is available on the Hedingham and Chambers website or on the bus.

The full timetable can be viewed here*

*Please note that the current 17:40 - 784 journey from Colchester will become the 17:40 - 84 departure.
