Maiden Story Bus event at Holland Park Primary School
1 month ago

A group of eager reception children from Holland Park Primary School enjoyed a magical journey on the Generation Go Story Bus, courtesy of Hedingham and Chambers. The special visit, which took place on Thursday, 27th February, gave the young pupils an exciting opportunity to experience travelling by bus.
Excitement filled the air as a bright double-decker bus pulled up outside the school. The children, many of whom had never stepped onto a bus before, were welcomed aboard by Driver George, who handed out tickets before they settled in on the top deck. There, they listened intently as the team read The Hundred Decker Bus, setting the perfect scene for their adventure around Clacton.

A Journey of Discovery
As the bus wound its way through familiar streets, the children eagerly looked out of the windows, ticking off sights on their bus bingo cards. Laughter and chatter filled the bus as they pointed out local landmarks, with one child excitedly exclaiming, “I get the bus with my Nanny, and there’s my house!”
Upon returning to school, the children had the chance to ask Driver George about life behind the wheel. A few lucky pupils even climbed into the driver’s seat, beaming with pride as they imagined steering the bus themselves. The visit ended on a high note with a spirited singalong of The Wheels on the Bus, before each child received a goody bag filled with a sticker, an activity book, and a special discount for a future bus journey.

A Memorable Experience
Reflecting on the event, one of the teachers shared:
"The children absolutely loved the Story Bus! They were captivated by the story and thrilled to spot places they recognised in their local area. They asked fantastic questions, and the staff were incredibly friendly, organised, and knowledgeable. Finishing with The Wheels on the Bus was the perfect way to wrap up a wonderful trip. It was lovely to see them heading home, excited to show their parents their bus tickets and goody bags.”
Davina Langley, Head of Commercial and Marketing at Hedingham and Chambers, highlighted the importance of the initiative:
"We are delighted to bring our Generation Go Story Bus to Holland Park Primary School, helping to build confidence and independence in future bus users. Buses play a crucial role in keeping local communities connected, and we’re proud to support schools in giving children this experience. We hope today’s visit inspires families to make use of our special offer and enjoy a fun, educational day out by bus. Who knows? We may have even met a future bus driver today!"
With smiles all around, the Story Bus adventure proved to be a fantastic way to introduce young children to bus travel - turning an ordinary journey into an unforgettable experience.
